History
Gambella Polytechnic started in January 2003 as a technical college, after a split of technical education from Makerere University. In 2008, Gambella Polytechnic was inaugurated as the third public university in the country.
Awarding institution
The institution is a member of the East African University, which is the regional academic authority. Awarding of academic degrees is done by the East African Commission for National Colleges, in collaboration with national accreditation bodies, including the Uganda National Council for Higher Education, and the Uganda Council for Higher Education.
